DAYS NUMBERED FOR KOTOKO TECHNICAL BENCH (GRAPHIC SPORTS, BACK PAGE, SEPT 15)

A massive shake-up that could see the dissolution of the entire technical team of Asante Kotoko and the ushering in of a new one is looming big.
It is a fallout of a string of unimpressive outing lately by the Porcupine Warriors, culminating in Kotoko finding themselves at the bottom of the Top 4 table with just a point from four games.
Agitation among the club’s myriad following has been rising by the day, especially in the face of a huge injection of capital into the recruitment of new players in the off-season.
Last weekend the club’s management held a crisis meeting in Kumasi with a view to reversing the downward trend of the club.
Details of the meeting have not been made public officially, but a source close to the club told the Graphic Sports that the focus was on the technical direction of the club.
Some names, including former coach, Ernst Middendorp are being mentioned as possible replacement of Herbert Addo. But it appears coach Addo had already found his way out of the club even before management dispenses with his services.
In the last two matches of the MTN Top 4 against Heart of Lions and King Faisal, Addo was not on the Kotoko bench.
Mr Addo has had frosty relations with his management over contractual issues and has not been with the team for some time now.
The coach, who at a point in the last premier season was touted as the “master tactician” in Kotoko circles, surprisingly found himself at the centre of a controversy over his ability to change the fortunes of the club.
He called for a formal contract but management dragged its feet, and he had to leave Kumasi for Accra.
His assistant, Johnson Smith, directed affairs in the last two matches, and in both games the performance of Kotoko was nothing to write home about, losing one and drawing the other.
Watching the team in the Top 4, one can easily deduce that the club needs to work hard to get in shape for the upcoming season.
