KUMASI Asante Kotoko management member, Rev. Osei Kofi has thrown a bombshell, describing the current crop of players at the club as “rubbish”.
“Yes, I mean it and I will say it everywhere that these players are not up to the standard of Kotoko,” he told Angel FM, a local radio station in Kumasi, last Monday.
Reacting to Kotoko’s failure to qualify for the next stage of the CAF Champions League last Sunday, he stated categorically that the club lacked quality and needed serious medication.
Rev. Osei Kofi, one of the greatest players ever to don Kotoko’s red jersey, disclosed that Coach Paa Kwesi Fabin had told him that if he had his own ways he would sack about 85 per cent of the players because they are not up to standard.
The management member said something drastic needed to be done to save the club from further troubles.
So when the crest-fallen Asante Kotoko encounter New Edubiase United at the Baba Yara Stadium in an outstanding Glo premier league match tomorrow, all would want to see how the “rubbish” players would work to tell a different story.
But despite delivering a disappointing performance against Senegalese side, ASC Linguere, Kotoko will believe that there is still life in the local league, and must fight to get to the top.
Therefore, they will strive to prevent New Edubiase from adding salt to their injury.
It appears New Edubiase, who are also struggling in the league, would attempt to keep Kotoko on the ropes, and only a rapid response can keep them from trouble.
It would be interesting to see if Coach Fabin can make any alteration to the pattern of play of his team.
The team has been unco-ordinated and lacks the power in front of goal, something that has cost them dearly this season.
