WORKERS ON SOFO LINE INTERCHANGE PROJECT ENJOY BETTER CONDITIONS (PAGE 29, 2010)

THE management of China Geo Engineering Corporation (Ghana), the company constructing the Sofo-Line interchange, has announced a package to boost the morale of its Ghanaian workers to work extra hard to complete the project on time.
The package includes increment in salaries and wages and in-service training in China for employees to improve on their skills.
A statement signed by Mr Xiao Shaochao, the Executive Project Manager of the company, said the increment, the percentage of which was not stated, took effect from January 21, 2010.
“It is expected to boost the morale of employees to work harder than before for greater productivity and better achievements,” the statement said.
The company said the project was very dear to the heart of the people of Kumasi and Ghana and the company was determined to ensure its completion to meet the expectations of the people.
It noted that the increment was not done under any pressure from employees or any other quarters.
The statement explained that the Managing Director of the firm, initiated the in-service training programme, to help improve the professional skills of employees and also enable them to learn more about Chinese cultural values.
The statement noted the improvement in the management-worker relationship and indicated management’s resolve to build on it.
It said management was also proud of the efficiency in productivity, which was crucial in meeting expected goals.
“Viewed in the light of the above, management expects to see further improvements in the coming years,” it said.
Meanwhile, the project is progressing steadily as the company works day and night to get it completed.
